So I went to see the Vagina Monologues last night. I did enjoy it, but I have to wonder if this is the best we can do.

1. Are we so afraid of our feelings that we have to personify our vaginas and have them "speak" for us? All of this "my vagina is angry" and "my vagina wants to say this..." is really silly, if you ask me. Your vagina is part of you. If you're angry, say that you're angry. Projecting it onto your vagina is just a way of removing both the feelings and the part of your anatomy from yourself. And because you have chosen this particular body part, you are still keeping it hidden, to be shown only in the very particular way of "women's circles" and discussions involving vaginas, which, anyone must admit, don't exactly happen every day. You can't shove all your frustrations into your vagina and release them only when you open your legs. It doesn't work that way.

2. Okay, vaginas are cool. But they are not the only part of our bodies that matters. A woman is more than her vagina or clitoris. All angles of a woman's personality and feelings and peculiarities and beauty cannot be found by looking between her legs. Why can't we appreciate our entire bodies at once? Our toes, our hair, the plasma in our blood, our breasts, our thighs, our taste buds, our beating hearts, our rapidly firing neurons, the napes of our necks. Don't we hate it when men call us "cunts" and "pussies"? Why should we reduce ourselves to our sexual organs (and not even all of them, just the one...)? Vaginas are not the only things that make us female or human. They are not our only source of power.

3. "If your vagina wore clothes, what would it wear?" Um, what? If your superior vena ceva wore clothes, what would it wear? Come on, people. I mean, really. SERIOUSLY.

In other news, I have now become so bored that I have started fooling around on name sites again (an addiction I battled with five years ago) and have discovered that the name "Yuri" means "Lily" in Japanese. This leads to all sorts of odd connections in my head between Yuri from KKM, yuri as in girl!love, Lily Potter, and my own name for being possibly derived from "pure of heart" while Lilies are a symbol for purity. Yes, that is actually how my mind works. You say "hat" and I say "Pope." Because the Pope wears a hat.

The Golden Compass movie- November 2007. Lyra has been cast, but there are no photos. Nicole Kidman is to play Mrs. Coulter.

Evangelion live action movie- no fraking clue. No one has been cast, but hopefully Shinji will not be played by Dan Radcliffe (he's too old, anyway) and Asuka will not be played by Hilary Duff. Apparently, it's supposed to come out "2006-2010." judging by the complete and utter lack of information, I would guess it's more like 2010. The director will not be Peter Jackson or Hideaki Anno :(
